The primary objective is to elucidate the divergences between these two streams regarding the definition and application of the term "Tradition". Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology, the study investigates lexicographical and hadith sources, alongside the philosophical perspectives of prominent Traditionalists such as Seyyed Hossein Nasr and René Guénon, contrasting them with the conception of Tradition in Traditional Islam. The findings reveal that in Traditional Islam, "Tradition" denotes pre-modern methodologies grounded in Islamic jurisprudence (<em>Fiqh</em>) and divine law (<em>Sharia</em>). In contrast, Traditionalists regard it as a sacred, trans-religious reality encompassing the Transcendent Unity of Religions and <em>Sophia Perennis</em> (Perennial Wisdom). The results indicate that while Traditional Islam often adopts a passive stance characterized by a disregard for modernity, Traditionalists engage in a critical understanding of modernity, committing themselves to redefining Tradition as a substantive alternative to the modern paradigm. این مقاله به بررسی تفاوت های مفهومی سنت در دو جریان اسلام سنتی و اسلام سنتگرا پرداخته و به دلیل شباهت ظاهری ولی تمایز بنیادی این دو جریان در مواجهه با مدرنیته، نسبت سنجی این دو جریان هدف این نوشتار است. روش تحقیق، تحلیلی- توصیفی با بررسی منابع لغوی، حدیثی و اندیشه های سنتگرایانی مانند نصر و گنون و بررسی آن با مفهوم سنت در اسلام سنتی است. یافته ها نشان می دهد که در اسلام سنتی، سنت به معنای روش های پیشامدرن و متکی بر فقه و شریعت است، در حالی که سنت گرایان آن را حقیقتی قدسی و امری فرادینی می دانند که شامل وحدت متعالی ادیان و حکمت خالده می شود. نتایج این پژوهش حاکی از آن است که کلیت اسلام سنتی با بی اعتنایی به مدرنیته، رویکردی انفعالی دارد، اما سنتگرایان با شناخت انتقادی از مدرنیته، به بازتعریف سنت به عنوان جایگزینی در مقابل آن التزام دارند. https://mazaheb.urd.ac.ir/article_244995_631ae3c0881f1bd3c089f840108175de.pdf
