Abstract
Religions and denominations have always utilized tools appropriate to their era for proselytization. Today, with the widespread emergence of religious satellite channels with Islamic perspectives, a comprehensive study of these channels is necessary to understand their macro- and micro-content, along with their promotional goals and perspectives. This study employs a descriptive-analytical method to analyze the discourse of the satellite channel Kalemeh—one of the currently active Sunni satellite channels. Accordingly, one program from this channel was selected for discourse analysis. The results of this research reveal the presence of two major discourses—“Ahl al-Sunna” and “Shiism”—within the content presented by Kalemeh. Under these discourses, the channel’s representation of the discourse of Ahl al-Sunna revolves around the central signifiers of the characteristics of Sunni scholars, figures, and people. Similarly, the channel’s representation of the discourse of Shiism revolves around the central signifiers of the characteristics of Shiite scholars, figures, and clerics.
