Abstract
This article uses a descriptive-analytical method to analyze and examine the role of apostasy in the separation of couples from the perspective of the jurisprudence of the five Islamic schools. In Imami jurisprudence, apostasy is one of the main reasons for the dissolution of the marriage contract, upon which the couple immediately separates from each other without issuing a divorce decree. The Maliki and Shafi'i schools pay attention to the role of apostasy in marital relations and in some cases, they immediately rule out the dissolution of the marriage contract if one of the parties apostasy, and in other cases, they consider the dissolution of the marriage contract to be suspended until the expiration of the waiting period. In Hanbali jurisprudence, apostasy can have different consequences that may lead to separation, depending on the individual's situation and the type of his or her relationship with religion; because in some cases, such as the Hanafi school, they rule on the validity of the previous marriage.
